Charisma, or “rizz” as Gen Alpha would call it, isn’t about being the loudest person in the room or the flashiest. Rizz is your natural charm. It’s about bringing to life the traits that make you naturally magnetic, such as sharp insights, quiet listening, or steady reliability.

Research shows charisma is a characteristic anyone can build by amplifying their authentic strengths. Simple tactics, like storytelling, eye contact, and genuine warmth, can boost your influence without pretending to be someone you are not. Keep reading to find out the simple ways to do it.

What if charisma isn’t a personality trait—but rather an emotional state you can tap into?

Sol Bites: Six Steps to Bring Out Your Unique Rizz

You don’t need to be flashy to develop rizz—just lean into what makes you you. The following steps are grounded in research from Harvard Business Review (HBR), and they focus on you noticing your natural pull and amplifying it.

Spark Your Charisma

Spot Your Spark:

Start to notice when people are drawn to you. Maybe you’re solving a problem, breaking down complex ideas, listening closely, or asking good questions.

Figure out what trait shines for you. Studies show having that self-awareness can double your charisma.

Show Warmth Your Way:

Smile genuinely and echo other people’s ideas. For example, if a coworker tells you they’re having an issue with a project’s timeline you would say, “You’re worried about the timeline—let’s fix that!” That type of response builds more trust making them feel you’re on their side.

Own Your Confidence:

Stand tall, make eye contact, and vary your voice tone. A study showed those moves can boost your "charismatic" vibes.

Add Natural Gestures:

When you’re speaking to people, use open hand movements and subtly mirror their body language. A head tilt to show you’re listening can make people feel valued.

Be Real with Vulnerability:

Admit to your flaws. You might tell a colleague, “I used to overthink details, but it made me thorough.” Revelations like that boost your likability. Pair those admissions with confidence to stay strong.

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat:

The majority of charisma comes from practice. Start by noticing when you draw people in, then remember to use those traits during your interactions with people to shift or enhance their perception of you.

Your rizz isn’t about being someone else. It’s about noticing when people are drawn to you and amplifying those natural strengths.

Research proves charisma is a skill, not a gift, and by leaning into your authentic style. With simple tactics such as being a good listener, a vibrant storyteller, or using meaningful gestures, you can develop your rizz.

Pro tip: Start small. This week, spot one moment when someone connects with you, and build from there. Your unique charisma is already inside you—bring it out, and you’ll lead with impact that feels real.

Words of Wisdom

Charisma is the ability to project confidence and love at the same time. Charismatic people don’t need to be around you but choose to be around you.
